Trends of the 2000's

I came across a great blog today called "Things that Inspire". The post was called "Trendy elements that scream 2000's?" to view the post click here. Some of the elements the blogger says are tell-tale signs of the 2000's are too many arches, columns, two-story living areas, granite counters, and oil-rubbed bronze hardware. Many of those I agree with. However, when she started picking on all white kitchens, tall arched faucets, and subway tile, I think I have to draw a line in the sand. You know that kitchen in the movie "Something's Gotta Give"? The beautiful white and black kitchen with the big islands, and commercial appliances? Well, if this blogger is correct, then that kitchen is soon going the way of forest green and burgundy wallpaper, or worse yet, stuffed bunnies perched on a peach and seafoam sofa. I'm not buying it. This kitchen would have looked great in the 1920's or 1980's, and will continue to look good into the next decade.

Here are a few shots from my own recent kitchen update.

The center island is Dunas White Granite. I thought it had a look similar to marble,
but the granite makes it more durable. The perimeter counters are natural Quartz.

Not to gross anyone out, but here is the kitchen before.

I would have been going out for dinner.

I'm still getting used to the idea of a pot-filler. I forget it's there.

The kitchen is not complete. We have been waiting for three months for the chandelier above the center island. (On back-order). I haven't finalized a backsplash tile yet. I am planning on adding under cabinet lighting, and Dusty (my contractor/cabinet maker) has many finishing touches to do. It is coming along nicely though, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

What do you think? Are granite counters, subway tiles, and all-white kitchens on their way out? I'd love to know your opinion.
